​​​​​How do I get the 2020 Landfill/Dump Sticker?
Please be advised, the 2019 Landfill/Dump sticker expiration date has been extended from March 31, 2020 to May 1, 2020.  You have the following options for renewal:
  1. Mail-in:  Please mail in a $25 check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem” plus a photocopy of your current registration for the vehicle that the landfill/dump sticker will be going on to the following address:

Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
 
  1. Town Hall Drop Box:  At the front of the Town Hall, please drop off a sealed envelope including a $25 check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem” plus a photocopy of your current registration for the vehicle that the landfill/dump sticker will be going on. Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
*** If you are aged 65 or over or 100% Permanent and Totally Disabled (with a letter designating such from the Social Security Administration or Veteran Affairs Office), please provide a photocopy of your vehicle registration, only, as your Landfill/Dump sticker is FREE for the first vehicle. Additional stickers to the same household will still cost $25 for each additional (without the Bulky Coupons)***
 
How do I renew my vehicle’s registration?
You have the following options:
  1. Online:  Please renew your vehicle registration through the Salem Town Clerk’s webpage1 using the “Online Motor Vehicle Renewal Registration”2 option and choosing “Renew by Plate” or “Renew by PIN”, if you received a registration renewal from the Town Clerk.
  2. Mail-in:  Please mail ONE check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem” for all vehicles being renewed, sending the Town Clerk’s renewal notice letter back, plus a SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE, to the following address:

What if I don’t know how much my vehicle registration renewal will cost?
Please go to the Salem Town Clerk’s webpage1.  Click on the option “Online Motor Vehicle Renewal Registration”2. Click on “Get an Estimate”. Follow the prompts for “Renewal Estimate”. The amount listed is the Local/Municipal fees and State fees combined. Due to privacy, we cannot provide this information over the phone.
 
How do I register or transfer plates to a car in the Town of Salem?
Purchased from an Out-of-State Dealership OR Private Sale; OR Moved in from Out-of-State:
  1. Please SCAN and EMAIL the following documents to swall@salemnh.gov OR FAX to 603-685-6402 “attn. Town Clerk” for review and approval:
    1. Front and back of the vehicle’s Title or Certificate of Origin completed with required Seller’s and Buyer’s information and odometer reading.
    2. If leased, all pages of the lease agreement designating the Leasing Company
    3. If liened, all pages of Bill of Sale designating the Lienholder
    4. If transferring NH-issued license plates from a previous vehicle to the new vehicle, a scan of the current, valid vehicle registration for those plates
    5. If moving in from out-of-state, a scan of the current, valid vehicle registration from the previous state of issue
    6. Front and back of owner(s) NH driver’s license(s)
  2. Once all documents have been reviewed and approved, one of the Collection Clerks will respond to the Dealership/Registrant with further instructions to drop off the above listed original documents along with valid payment at the Town Hall for processing and subsequent pick-up. Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
Purchased from a New Hampshire Dealership:
  1. Please SCAN and EMAIL the following documents to swall@salemnh.gov OR FAX to 603-685-6402 “attn. Town Clerk” for review and approval:
    1. Completed and signed “Application for Certificate of Title” (Town Clerk’s copy)
    2. If transferring plates from a previous vehicle to new vehicle, a scan of the valid vehicle registration for those plates
    3. Front and back of owner(s) NH driver’s license(s)
  2. Once all documents have been reviewed and approved, one of the Collection Clerks will respond to the Dealership/Registrant with further instructions to drop off the above listed original documents along with valid payment at the Town Hall for processing and subsequent pick-up. Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
Please allow the Town Clerk and staff ample time to review your vehicle information and supporting documentation. We will contact you as soon as we have reviewed and/or received your information. This is a unique situation and a whole new process for all of us. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to review and streamline our process.
 
How do I apply for a Marriage License for the State of New Hampshire at the Town Hall?
  1. Please contact the Town Clerk at 603-890-2116 to schedule an appointment. 
  2. Once an appointment has been made, please bring the following with you to the Town Hall:
  • Photo IDs (Driver’s License OR Passport)
  • Birth certificates, original or photocopies (a passport does NOT take the place of the birth certificate)
  • If previously married and divorced: the original, certified Final Divorce Decree
  • If previously married with a deceased spouse: the original, certified Death Certificate of the spouse
  • $50 check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem”
  1. Both you AND your fiancée must be present on the Town Hall premises to fill out the Certificate of Intention of Marriage
  2. Please allow yourself 30-45 minutes to complete the entire application process
How do I get a copy of my Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and/or Divorce Decree?
You have the following options:
  1. Online payment:  Please request and pay for your vital records search through the Town of Salem’s webpage3. Click on “Online Payments”4. Click on “Vital Records” and you will be transferred to the EB2.gov website to complete the request. Please email a photocopy or scan/picture of your driver’s license to the address listed at the bottom of the EB2.gov application. Once processed, we will mail the certified vital records to the address listed on your application.
  2. Online form with payment mailed to the Town Clerk:  Please go to the Salem Town Clerk’s webpage1. Click on “Application for all Vital Record Certificate5 and print the document. Complete the appropriate section(s) for the vital record(s) you are requesting. Mail your vital record request sheet, a check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem”, and a photocopy of your valid driver’s license to the following address:

Once processed, we will mail the certified vital records to the address listed on your application.  Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
 
  1. Town Hall Drop Box:  Please go to the Salem Town Clerk’s webpage1.  Click on “Application for all Vital Record Certificate5 and print the document. Complete the appropriate section(s) for the vital record(s) you are requesting. Drop off your vital record request sheet, a check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem”, and a photocopy of your valid driver’s license in a sealed envelope in the Town Hall’s Drop Box at the front door. Once processed, we will mail the certified vital records to the address listed on your application.  Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
Where do I get a Temporary (20-day) Plate for my vehicle?
Only the DMV can issue Temporary Plates. Please contact the NH DMV at 603-227-4000 for sub-station operating hours and Temporary Plate application requirements.
 
How do I register a new dog in the Town of Salem?
You have the following options:
  1. Mail-in:  Please review and complete the “Dog License Application6” form. Submit the completed form, a copy of your dog’s most recent veterinarian-issued rabies certificate (showing the rabies number, vaccination date and expiration date), and ONE check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem” for all dog licenses requested based upon the fee schedule listed on the application, to the following address:

  1. Town Hall Drop Box:  Please refer to the mail-in option above, accept that you may drop off the required form and payment at the DROP BOX at the front of the Town Hall.
How do I renew dog licences in the Town of Salem?
You have the following options:
  1. Starting March 23rd, online payment:  Please request and pay for your dog license(s) through the Town of Salem’s webpage3. Click on “Online Payments4 and then select “Dog License Renewal” and you will be transferred to the EB2.gov website to complete the payment process. You will need your dog’s license number from 2019. Due to privacy, we cannot provide the license number from the previous year over the phone/online.
  2. Mail-in:  Please mail ONE check or money order made payable to the “Town of Salem” for all dog licenses being renewed, listing the license number(s) from the 2019-2020 season on the “memo” line, to the following address:

Due to privacy, we cannot provide the license number from the previous year over the phone/online. Cash is NOT an acceptable form of payment using this method.
 
  1.
