Police Department  »  Operations  »  Investigative Services

The Investigative Services Unit is responsible for the follow-up investigation of all the crimes that reach beyond the scope of the patrol personnel. This includes crimes like burglaries, thefts, assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, narcotics investigations and homicide. The ISU handles all of the records checks for pistol permits, housing authority applicants and employment background investigations for new hires to the police department. Patrol officers are encouraged to conduct follow-up investigations but often time the nature of shift assignments makes it difficult. Each detective receives general investigation training along with specialized specific training in different areas. The detectives work closely with State and Federal Task Forces in gang investigation, fugitive apprehension and narcotics investigation.
