Permit Information

WATER SERVICE, SEWER SERVICE, GREASE INTERCEPTOR AND DRIVEWAY PERMITS

For water service, sewer service, grease interceptors and driveways an Engineering Permit application must be filled out in its entirety in order to obtain a permit. The Contractor has to have a $1,000.00 Bond on file with the Town of Salem and provide Certificates of Insurance for General Liability and Workers Compensation to the Town to obtain the permit. A valid DIGSAFE number is required to obtain a permit. Work shall not start until a valid permit has been issued. The permit must be signed by the contactor and the Town to be valid. It is the contractor’s responsibility to notify Engineering and/or the Utility Division a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours in advance of starting the work to schedule an inspection.


STREET OPENING PERMITS

To obtain a Street Opening Permit an Engineering Permit application must be filled out in its entirety in order to obtain a permit. The Contractor has to have a $5,000.00 Bond on file with the Town of Salem and provide Certificates of Insurance for General Liability and Workers Compensation to the Town. A valid DIGSAFE number is required to obtain a permit. The permit application must be signed by the Police Department for Traffic Management Plan approval. Work shall not start until a valid permit has been issued. The permit must be signed by the contactor and the Town to be valid. It is the contractor's responsibility to scheduled details with the Police Department. It is the contractor's responsibility to notify Engineering and/or the Utility Division a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours in advance of starting the work to schedule an inspection.


SUBDIVISION CONSTRUCTION PERMITS

For Subdivision Construction Permits the Subdivision Owner must contact Engineering and obtain a Subdivision Construction Permit to be filled out and signed by the Owner. This permit must be issued prior to any work commencing. Outside Inspection Fee escrow must be established and a Preconstruction meeting held prior to permit being issued.
