Building Safety Division
It is the mission of the Building Division to effectively and efficiently promote the life safety, health and welfare of Salem's residents and visitors by ensuring that construction projects comply with the minimum requirements of the New Hampshire State Building Code and the Town of Salem Zoning Ordinance.
On February 01, 2016, the Building Division was incorporated into the Fire Department reorganization. Inspectional Services, Building Safety division will now be overseen by Fire Marshal Jeff Emanuelson.
The Building Safety Division is responsible for the review and approval of building, electrical, plumbing, and gas permit applications and for the inspection of all work performed under such permits.
Inspectors are available from 8:30 to 9:30 AM and from 4:00 to 5:00 PM ("counter hours") to discuss construction projects, answer questions, assist with permit applications, and for issuance of permits.
When not in the office for counter hours, Inspectors are in the field performing inspections. To schedule an inspection, contact the Building Division Inspection Line (603-685-6415) at least 24-hours in advance with your permit number and a description of the work to be inspected.
Permit applications are accepted during our normal hours of operation. Applicants are encouraged to ensure that any permit applications submitted outside of counter hours are complete and are accompanied by all necessary documents and information, as incomplete applications may delay permit issuance.
